Part 3 : Add MythTV menu item for TV streaming site

This page is part of a sequence of steps for creating a tv-true platform for viewing TV streaming websites on your television:

  1. To obtain the 32 bit Flash player from Adobe first download the "YUM for Linux" package and choose the "Open with Package Installer" option in the Firefox download dialog box. After this package is installed go to the System > Administration > Add/Remove Software from the Linux desktop menu, search for the "Adobe Flash Player 10.1" package (flash-plugin-10.1.52.64-release (i386)) to complete the installation.

    Alternatively download the ".tar.gz" file and after expanding, place the libflashplayer.so in ~/.mozilla/plugins

  2. cp /usr/bin/firefox ~/.mythtv/firefox_mythtv

  3. setup a Mythtv menu option to launch the new firefox_mythtv script, see also the Mythtv guide for mainmenu.xml

    cd ~/.mythtv
    cp /usr/share/mythtv/themes/defaultmenu/mainmenu.xml .
    nano mainmenu.xml

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <mythmenu name="MAIN">

        <button>
            <type>TV_WATCH_TV</type>
            <text>BBC iPlayer</text>
            <action>EXEC /home/mythtv/.mythtv/firefox_mythtv http://bbc.co.uk/iplayer/bigscreen</action>
            <description>Launch Firefox to BBC iPlayer</description>
        </button>

    ...

Now move onto the next part of the installation
