Connecting your PC to the Television

If you are going to place your standard PC in the living room then make sure it has a TV output, this is usually a round multi-pin "s-video" socket. S-video does not have an audio channel so the cable will need to connect the s-video socket and speaker sockets of your PC, sometimes (e.g. with laptops) these sockets are not close to each other.

Some televisions have a socket for direct VGA input, this will give the best quality of image onto your television but again you will need to connect the audio by a separate means.

Modern televisions have HDMI sockets for carrying High Definition video signal plus audio and there is a growing number of PC solutions with HDMI output that can be used as a basis for a tv-true hardware platform.
