Solving the Problem Running Boxee Version 1.5

Boxee is halting the development of the separately downloadable version of Boxee software. The latest version, 1.5, is only available for download until the end of January 2012, after that time your only option for using Boxee is purchasing the dedicated hardware solution.

HOWEVER, depending on your Windows version you may experience a problem running Boxee version 1.5 because a certain DirectX library is not on your PC; a dialog box is displayed showing "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_43.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

You have probably tried re-installing the application and found that the problem has not been fixed and that is why you searched the internet and found this page!

You may have also found links to http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35, from this page you can download a Runtime Web Installer for automatially installing DirectX libraries. This may work for you but in some circumstances the automatic installer will fail with a dialog box stating "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid"

Rather than get bogged down trying to work out why on earth Cryptographic Services are enabled on your PC and yet reject a certificate provided by a Microsoft automatic installer! instead, download the complete set of "DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)" from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=8109. Run the "directx_Jun2010_redist.exe", this will prompt you for a folder to store all the runtimes, create a temporary folder for the files and then from the folder run the "DXSETUP.exe". This program will determine the appropriate DirectX runtimes for your Windows version, including the "d3dx9_43.dll" needed by Boxee. Job done.

Alternatively you can just extract the dll from the "Jun2010_d3dx9_43_x86.cab" found in the temporary folder (WinRAR can open .cab files)
